Breast cancer is one of the most common types of canceramong women both globally and locally, making awareness and education essentialfor public health. During the month of October, the internationally recognizedmonth for breast cancer awareness, Dr. Sulaiman Al-Faqeh Hospital carried out aseries of awareness campaigns under the slogan “Bloom with Hope.”These campaigns aimed to promote health education about breast cancer,highlight the importance of early detection, and introduce the latestdiagnostic and treatment methods available.
As part of the campaign, an electronicquestionnaire was introduced to assess risk factors and the likelihoodof developing breast cancer. The health educator completes the form with thepatient, and once all questions are answered, the result is immediately sentvia SMS to the registered mobile number. This allows the patient to present theassessment directly to the physician during the visit, helping guide anynecessary medical follow-up.
The 2025 awareness activities also included in-hospitalawareness days, featuring educational stations, workshops on breastself-examination, and lectures delivered by specialized physicians to explainprevention methods and the importance of regular screening. Additionally,informational brochures and motivational giveaways were distributed. The healtheducation teams engaged directly with visitors, answered their questions, andprovided guidance on adopting healthy lifestyle habits that can help reduce therisk of breast cancer.
Here are some of the activities organized bythe hospital this month as part of breast cancer awareness:
1. The series of breast cancer awareness campaigns began with educational boothsheld over three days at the hospital, in collaboration with the HealthEducation Department, Family Medicine, and the Appointments Department, aimingto encourage women to book early screening appointments. These activities tookplace on October 7th, 8th, and 9th, 2025."
2. As part of the breast cancer awareness activities, an awareness day was held in response to requests fromschools to educate their teachers, students, and mothers about breast cancerand the importance of early detection. An online lecture titled "EarlyScreening is Your Weapon and Your Nutrition is Your Pink Shield" wasconducted on October 20, targeting Al-Fursan International Schools.
The lecture was delivered by a teamof experts, including General Surgery Consultant Dr. Hanaa Tashkandi,Director of the Clinical Nutrition Department at Faqih Hospital Ms. OmaimaGhari, and Health Education Specialist Ms. Jumana Al-Yamani. Theevent was promoted on social media to reach the widest possible audience,aiming to educate participants on the importance of early screening, therelationship between nutrition and cancer prevention, as well as providingdetailed information on treatment and prevention methods, and offering anopportunity for attendees to ask medical questions and receive professionalguidance.
3. As part of the breast cancerawareness activities, an awareness day was organized at Eastwood Schoolon October 22, in response to the school’s request to raise awarenessamong students, mothers, and teachers about breast cancer and the importance ofearly detection.
The day featured a comprehensiveawareness lecture delivered by specialized hospital departments, represented byan experienced medical and allied health team, including the Family MedicineDepartment: Dr. Amani Gouda – Family Medicine Consultant, Ms. WehdaAl-Qadri – Health Education Specialist, and Ms. Alaa Bahafzallah – NutritionSpecialist.
The lecture aimed to enhance healtheducation on the importance of early screening, the relationship betweennutrition and breast health, and to provide information about different typesof breast cancer, treatment options, and preventive measures. It also offeredpractical guidance for students, mothers, and teachers on monitoring theirhealth regularly and performing self-examinations, along with an opportunity toask medical questions and receive professional answers, thereby contributing toraising overall health awareness within the school community.
4. Fakeeh Care Group concluded itsbreast cancer awareness campaign with a series of events organized by the FakeehCare Academy in collaboration hospital, graciously hosted by KadanaCompany in the Mecca region, during October 23, 24th, and 25th. Theevents were organized by Ms. Khairia Othman, Group Patient and CommunityEducation Director, in collaboration with the with the DSFH Jeddah hospital team: MarketingDepartment, Health Education Department, Family Medicine Department, NutritionDepartment, Nursing students from Fakeeh College of Medical Sciences, as wellas the team from DSFH AlMadinah hospital.
The awareness days attracted a largenumber of visitors and featured a variety of educational programs, includinglectures, workshops, and interactive awareness booths. Topics included thedifferent types of breast cancer, the importance of early detection, the linkbetween healthy nutrition and cancer prevention, and modern treatment andpreventive measures. Practical guidance was also provided on self-examinationtechniques and regular health monitoring, along with opportunities forattendees to ask medical questions, all aimed at enhancing health awarenesswithin the local community.
Representatives from KadanaCompany expressed their great satisfaction and deep gratitude for theoutstanding efforts made by the Fakeeh Care Group during this campaign.They emphasized that the high level of organization and services provided washighly appreciated, and that this initiative serves as a pioneering model ofcollaboration between healthcare institutions and community organizations topromote health education and disease prevention.
