What is a nebulizer?
It is a medical device used for the treatment of respiratory diseases or disorders like; bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Device designs may vary according to the manufacturer, but all can perform similarly.
Nebulizer system components:
Air compressor, nebulizer cup, tubing, mask, a sterile syringe to withdraw thespecified dose of the drug.
Method of use:
- Put the nebulizer on a stable surface that can withstand its weight.
- Wash your hands properly and dry them by a clean towel afterwards.
- Measure the required dosage of the drug as instructed by the doctor.
- Use a clean syringe for drug withdrawal; make sure to withdraw each drug separately.
- Open the nebulizer cup, put the measured doses into it and then close the cover.
- Attach the mask on top of the cup, then connect the cup to the air pump using the tubing.
- Sit upright on a comfortable chair.
- Put on the mask tightly but not to cause any harm.
- Press the power button of the air compressor, now you can see the spray coming out of the mask.
- Breathe deeply and slowly through your mouth.
- Continue to inhale the spray until it stops.
- If you are suffering dizziness, palpitation or shivering, stop the inhalation for five minutes and then try again, if these symptoms repeated, please consult the doctor.
- Press the power-off button.
- Wash your hand well after each treatment session.
Taking care of the device:
• Wash the mask properly after each treatment session and let it dry in room air.
• By the end of the day, wash the cup and the mask by worm water and soap, rinse them and let them dry in room air.
• There is no need to clean the tubing.
• Do not wash the device parts in any washing machine or even boil them.
Follow up in the outpatient clinic:
You have to Follow up the respiratory clinic within one week or if:
- You do not feel better.
- You have any questions about your case.
