Food – Drug Interaction - Cyclosporine (Neoral-Sandimmune)

  1. Avoid vaccines during therapy unless approved by healthcare professional.
  2. To decrease the risk of skin malignancies, avoid excessive exposure to ultraviolet light.
  3. Maintain a low-fat diet (vegetable oils are preferable) in order to decrease drug effect on cholesterol.
  4. Drug may cause hypertension, renal dysfunction, liver dysfunction, hirsutism, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, tremor, or gingival enlargement.
  5. Rinsing the oral solution syringe with water either before or after use will cause a variation in dose and should be avoided.
  6. Avoid concomitant potassium-sparing drugs, potassium supplements, and food/salt substitutes that are high in potassium.
